Justification
This species is widespread in the Indian and tropical Pacific, and may be common in some parts of its range. It is collected in some parts of its range. Its population is likely not undergoing widespread decline globally, but the taxonomy of the species needs revision, as it is likely a complex. It is listed as Data Deficient. More research is needed on this species taxonomy and biology.

Use trade

In the Western Central Pacific, this species does not have commercial value (Kinch et al. 2008). It has commercial importance in China and Indonesia (Choo 2008) and Mexico (Toral-Granda 2008). In Madagascar, it has limited harvesting (Rasolofonirina 2007). This species has potential commercial value in Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (Bruckner 2006).

This species is harvested for the aquarium trade (Toral-Granda 2007).
