This species is relatively widespread in the Indo-Pacific and Eastern Pacific, and can be common in some parts of its range. It is not widely fished, and there are no other known threats. It is listed as Least Concern.

RANGE DESCRIPTION
This species is widespread throughout the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa and the Red Sea, eastward to Ecuador and Mexico. It is found as far north as southern Japan, and south to Australia.

Habitat and Ecology
This species is found in coral rubble and seagrasses commonly to depths of about 10m, but may be found to 40m. It is a nocturnal species in Kenya (Muthiga et al. 2007).

This species is fished in some parts of its range, but is of low commercial value. It is not of commercial value in the Western Central Pacific (Kinch et al. 2008), however, it is of commercial importance in China, Malaysia and the Philippines (Choo 2008). In China, it is of low commercial importance (Chen 2004).
